You know your scales, your chords and maybe even your modes. You’ve watched the videos and bought the books. But when the melody ends and it’s your turn, everything you know seems to disappear. That isn’t a talent problem. It’s a preparation problem: you’ve collected information, but the tools aren’t in your hands yet. Jazz Piano Improvisation changes that.

JAZZ PIANO IMPROVISATION
Build a toolbox
Start from a melody you already know
Learn one tool at a time
Practise each tool until it’s part of your playing
Combine your tools into real solos
Start to sound like you
Every module gives you one tool and a practice plan: laser focus on one chord, connections through a progression, then application in a real tune.
Turn a melody you already know into your first improvisation, using anticipation, delay and melodic embellishment.
Make even one note swing. Note values, swing feel, starting phrases in different places, and using space.
Five notes that instantly sound like jazz, plus the blues scale and the language at the heart of jazz.
Use guide tones and target notes, so your lines follow the chords instead of floating over them.
Create short ideas and develop them so your solo tells a story. Then add bebop lines using Barry Harris’s half-step rules.
Build a solo chorus by chorus on real standards, plus listening, transcribing and a practice plan for life.
Jazz Piano Improvisation is the third level of the Jazz Piano Pyramid. Fundamentals gave you the harmony. The Lab gave you voicings, rhythm and comping. Now you learn to make your own melodies over those chords.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to improvise over a blues, Autumn Leaves and other standards, using pentatonic and blues language, guide tones, motifs and bebop lines. You’ll record a “before” solo on day one and an “after” solo at the end, so you can hear exactly how far you’ve come.
You can play seventh chords and comp through a simple tune
You know some theory but freeze when it’s time to solo
You play at home, with backing tracks, for friends and family, or in a band
You want a clear, step-by-step path, not a pile of licks
You’re ready to practise one thing at a time
You’re brand new to jazz chords (start with Jazz Piano Fundamentals)
You want licks to copy without understanding them
You’re looking for a quick trick instead of real practice
You’re not willing to practise one tool at a time
